Your breath is not just a part of your practice; it is its essence. It's not just a part of your life, but life itself. Understanding and mastering your breath is the key to unlocking your potential, on and off the mat.
Traditionally, yoga classes begin or end with Pranayama (breathing techniques.) Less attention is given to day-to-day breathing or breathing within poses beyond being told when to inhale and exhale. True functional breathing is more than inhaling and exhaling from an external cue.
In this 10-hour all-levels training, you will:
Understand the relationship between daily functional breathing and pranayama
Delve into the biochemistry and biomechanics of breathing
Discover why understanding the Ayurvedic vayus are crucial to understanding pranayama
Measure how functional your day-to-day breathing is
Learn to train your respiratory system to be more efficient and imbue the body with more oxygen
Increase adaptability and resilience to stress on a cellular level
Practice seasonal pranayama techniques and tailor them to the changing state of your unique body-mind

You can choose to attend either day or both days of the training.
Day 1 will be foundational and science-based, focusing more on Breath Training and Breathing Mechanics—how the lungs, diaphragm, and respiratory muscles work together to support efficient oxygen exchange and optimal health. We will emphasize physical alignment and lung capacity and address habits like shallow or mouth breathing.
Day 2 will delve into yoga philosophy and pranayama's subtle anatomy and spiritual dimensions. Learn the 5 vayus (vatas) and how prana moves in the body. This will inform which pranayama to choose for which season, which person, and which outcome you want.
Both days will include lectures and practice.
